Tabletop Workshops, the teaching arm of Purr & Wag It (PaW) was invented to provide You with hands on relaxed learning and me the opportunity and great enjoyment of facilitating others' creativity in the relaxed setting of my home studio in Camberwell. All my courses and workshops are fuelled with plenty of homemade cake, teas and coffee.

What's PaW? Born out of a gift to my brother, it's my felted portrait/landscapes small business. Marrying my love of animals with my love for making and in particular pushing the boundaries of fine detail in wet felt making.

I've been teaching people of all ages and with widely differing abilities for well over a decade in educational and community settings across Greater London and hold an enhanced DBS certificate for children and vulnerable adults.

Showing off doesn't come naturally but amongst other praise past participants have said:

... We loved this course. Heather is a great teacher - informative, friendly and relaxed. And a great baker to boot (tea and cake was happily consumed during felt making) and the atmosphere felt like an evening spent with friends. ...

Learn how to turn a pile of wool fibres into a piece of cloth. Then learn how to make a vessel without sewing a single stitch! Taking place at Purr & Wag It HQ; Heather's home studio in Camberwell. An Any Time workshop or short course to slip perfectly into your busy diary adaptable to what you and your friends (four max) want to achieve. If you want to learn 2D and 3D the first part of the workshop will take you through how to make a small flat piece of felt, decorate it and blend colours. Then you'll chose and prepare your fibres for your 3D vessel before Heather guides you through how to use a resist (this is a piece of cloth or other material that stops the wool fibres from one set of layers felting to those below) to make a seam free 3D vessel. By the end of the workshop you will have a small flat decorative work and a 3D vessel.

Make a sprig of mistletoe to hang in your home or give as a gift. In this workshop you'll be guided through how to make a piece of flat felt to use for leaves, as well as how to make 3D "beads" to use for berries. You'll then cut your felt into at least six mistletoe leaves and with a bit of wire cutting, wool winding and stitching, create your sprig of mistletoe. Please note as felt takes a while to dry your everlasting mistletoe will be wet when you leave.

In this wet felt making workshop, you will learn how to turn an amorphous mass of loose fibres into a piece of cloth with a simple figurative or abstract image to the top. Taking place at Heather's home in Camberwell. You will be fuelled by plenty of home made cake, teas and/or coffee. With a maximum of four participants, these three hour workshops are designed to provide everybody with plenty of time for one on one attention. Heather always aims for sessions to be flexible to individual participants needs. Heather will guide you through how to lay out the fibres to make a flat piece of felt. She will also introduce you to how to blend colours using carders. Then using your reference material create a simple figurative or abstract image on the top. Lastly yo will learn how to transform all the loose fibres into a piece of cloth. If you can not quite decide what type of image to create Heathers home is full of art and design books and if need be she can print you an image to adapt. Wet felt making is a simple process (once you know how) made up of a series of repetitive actions. Many people find it relaxing and some a stress buster. But, elements of felt making are quite vigorous and very hands on. If you have arthritis in your hands you may find parts of the process challenging. Allergies to cats or indeed wool? Please note Heather has three cats (they all will be elsewhere in the house during the workshops). Antihistamines are available but her workshops may not be for you.

A really interesting and enjoyable course over two evenings. Heather made everything very clear and easy, provided great materials and ensured we all made something we were pleased with. I had never felted anything before but would now like to do more and feel quite confident about starting on my own. I'd also like to do another course with Heather. Highly recommended.

I loved this course - working with felt is amazing, the colours are beautiful and the end results were much better than I expected. I am not particularly artistic but I produced something I really liked. Heather was very clear and patient and the atmosphere was relaxed and very calming. The location was also great. I now know exactly what to do if I wanted to do felting on my own.

A really fantastic workshop! Incredibly insightful and taught in a way that made it relaxing and enjoyable. I took so much away from the experience, not only my lovely felted pieces but also the skills and knowledge to continue making at home. There was an abundance of beautifully coloured felts to work with and no short supply of tea and biscuits either. I couldn't have enjoyed myself more and left feeling very inspired.

We loved this course. Heather is a great teacher - informative, friendly and relaxed. And a great baker to boot (tea and cake was happily consumed during felt making). All (beautiful) materials were provided and the two workshops took place in a small group of four and an atmosphere that felt like an evening spent with friends. We learned several techniques over the two workshops and left feeling inspired and ready to tackle a larger projects we had in mind when first joining the course. Highly recommended and we would definitely join another course with Heather.

the course has been amazing... very interesting and very well explained. At the end, we managed to make a felt vessel. The tutor has a lot of experience and can answer any question about felt. I recommend the course to everyone who wants to have the bases to start felting.

A really enjoyable and instructive 2 day course. Heather is very clear and understandable, not only with instructions but also With the reasons why. Over the 2 evenings I managed to produce a 2d and 3D piece to a reasonable standard. Heather also provides a great range of merino wools in glorious colours for each project. As well as all other materials necessary. A productive, sociable, therapeutic experience.

I came back a second time because I enjoyed this course so much. My second piece I chose to do in 2D and now have something Im going to frame. Heather is really good at inspring you and understanding what it is you want to create and helping you get there. The atmosphere was again really relaxing and fun and in a lovely house. I now have a more in depth understanding of the process and am really proud of the progress Ive made.

I really enjoyed the felt workshops, and produced two lovely pieces of work with Heather's fantastic help. She is a great teacher, explaining not only the whole felting process but the history behind it too. She very patiently took us through what to do, and kept a careful eye on us all as we progressed with our work. In the second week I did a portrait of my dog, which at first seemed a but over ambitious, but Heather really helped me produce something which is good enough to give as a Christmas present. Heather is very generous with the high quality materials and there is a fabulous array of colours to choose from. It was really fun, interesting and therapeutic!

An excellent session on felt making. Heather is very well organised and had everything that was required at hand. She was very patient, calm and friendly. I managed to complete a piece of work that I am most happy with. I have also learnt a lot about the art of felt making. The delicious cakes were also a bonus! I highly recommend Heathers course as an introduction to felt making!

I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon with Heather learning how to make a 2-D felt picture. She is incredibly patient and made me feel very welcome in her home. The small group size meant we got a lot of individual attention and help. The course was well organised and the wools were beautiful to work with. I produced a piece that I am planning to frame and hang in my house.
